Patient Partners is a volunteer program in which retired physicians and nurses visit hospital patients.
As technology dominates the relationship aspects of medicine more and more, our Patient Partner Program, started in 2005, has been instrumental in filling the gap that has evolved between caregivers and patients.
The program brings retired doctors and nurses back to the patient’s bedside to be a knowing, caring presence. Our carefully selected volunteers average over twenty years of clinical experience and know the culture of the healing arts.
The volunteers are trained in how to engage with patients, their families, and friends. Special emphasis is placed on defining boundaries, and specifically avoiding conflict with other members of the care team, i.e. the patient’s doctors and nurses.
